Winter at READS

Most people think of Mallorca as only a spring and summer destination. Yes, it is wonderful in those seasons with its almost non stop sunshine and so much beauty to enjoy. The perfect destination for relaxing and unwinding and only two hours flying time from anywhere in Europe. But Mallorca's secret is that it is also an excellent autumn and  winter destination.  It has an average of 300 days of sunshine a year so throughout the autumn and winter its weather will be much better than in northern Europe. There are many days when you can sit by the pool, go for a walk without having to wrap up against the elements and, of course, the temperatures are never anywhere near what you have at home.  The Island is also beautiful in these seasons with the almond blossom and an almost permanent palette of wild flowers.
 
 Then there is Palma to explore. A beautiful and very historic city of half a million people with a serious shopping centre where the most up to date fashion items can be found but, and this is the surprise, very often in  colours different from those you will find at home as we are in the Mediterranean. The city also has some wonderful buildings dating back to the time of the Moors through to the art nouveau era with many of them tucked away in the maze of narrow ally ways that criss - cross the city centre.  There are some excellent museums and every night concerts somewhere in the city.  The hotel is perfectly situated in relation to the city being only 15 minutes away either by train or by car.
 
The hotel is also a 12 month of the year destination. Right through the year the truly stunning 650m2 Vespasian spa  provides all the relaxation you want whether it's by way of treatments, swimming in the 100m2 hydro massage pool, using the thermal circuit or a work out in the gym. And if you just want to put your feet up the spa salon is the perfect place with its views over the gardens through the glass arches.
 
If you are a cyclist at whatever level cycling in Mallorca is special right through the year but particularly when the sun isn't at its hottest The Island ticks all the boxes for cyclists. Flat and mountain roads in close proximity to one another, excellent road surfaces, respectful four wheel traffic,  and great sights, sounds and smells. Reads takes cycling seriously and is at the centre of just about the best cycling area on the Island. That is why over the years we have had many professional and Olympic and Paralympic cyclists using Reads as a training base and why Giant, the famous luxury cycle manufacturers, use Reads as their base  every three years when they launch their new models on to the European market.  And no need to bring your bike if you don't want to as we have 25 Giant carbon fibre road and mountain bikes and even  a guide to accompany you if you wish.
 
For walkers as for cyclists the Island is perfect. Easy walks, hard walks are right outside the hotel's door and detailed maps  to guide you can be supplied.
 
The hotel has its tennis court and raquets can be provided. Also we have a coach should you want lessons or a partner.
 
There is wi fi connection throughout the ground floor so you can stay in touch with your business 24/7.  
 
Browns Bar, with its wonderful frescoes and special lighting, comes alive in the autumn and winter. Amazing atmosphere, wonderful music, perfect service and bar snacks available all day.
 
We have a large selection of DVDs and also twice a week on one of the TV channels we show a film from our collection.
 
If you want to hire a car we can secure special rates for you but don't forget the  train service every 20 minutes, every day from Santa Maria to the centre of Palma and we will take you and collect you from the station.
