What's On & What's to Do

Palma & Mallorca.........a perfect 12 month a year destination

At Reads outside the summer months we offer our guests a great choice of things to do. Our position in the heart of the countryside, but just a 15 minute drive from Palma, gives guests the benefit of both worlds, city and countryside. And if you don't want to hire a car there is the regular train service from Santa Maria to Palma and without charge we can take you to and collect you from the station.

Palma, with a population of 400,000, is a beautiful city to explore when the summer crowds have left. It has shops and restaurants to suit every taste, wonderful historical buildings to discover, concerts to go to and always there is that Mediterranean atmosphere and buzz. And like all cities by the sea it has that extra something that inland cities don't have.

Golf

Mallorca has become a paradise for golfers with 21 first class courses on the island and 7 of these golf courses within 30 minutes of the hotel.

Cycling

Cycling at READS

We are at the centre of the best cycling area on the island, whether you are a weekend cyclist, a very casual cyclist or someone who wants to be in the saddle for most of the day. And we are the only 5 star hotel on the island that offers its guests, free of charge, the use of 22 top quality carbon road, mountain or hybrid bicycles by the famous manufacturers Giant. And if you don't know the island we can suggest routes and provide a guide to accompany you.

Walking

Mallorca is famous for being the ideal Mediterranean location for walkers, particularly outside of the summer months. A chance to discover the beauty of the interior of the island at its quietest on foot.
  
For guests who love walking the area around the hotel is perfect for every level of walker. Suggested routes are available and a local guide and a picnic can be provided.

Game Shooting

Partridge shooting in the hills of Mallorca, only 30 minutes from Reads at a wonderful estate owned and run by a Mallorcan family, who provide excellent hospitality.  All shoots consist of 2 consecutive days and will be arranged and managed by a true professional from beginning to end.  Contact us for more information and ask about our group accommodation rates.

The shooting season in Mallorca runs from 1st September to 31st March.

Cooking Classes & Master Chef

Cooking Classes given by our head chef. For sure you will learn more than you could have imagined.

The Master Chef Experience. Totally unique to Reads where you spend the whole day in the kitchen working as part of the starred team. A real hands on experience. And you have a chance to be chosen as Reads Master Chef of the year with all the glory and prizes that brings.

Market Visit. Both our Cooking Classes and Master Chef Experience can include a guided tour by our head chef round the Olivar fresh food market in Palma. The market is very special covering as it does everything from meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and cheeses and, of course, all from the Mediterranean.

Chefs Table & Wine Appreciation

The Chef's Table. The only one on the island. It is set in the heart of the kitchen and raised up above the general level of the kitchen so whilst you are dining from a special menu you can watch all the action going on in front of you.

The Wine Appreciation Evening. Once a week our sommelier will host a wine appreciation class at which he will explain, together with tastings, some of the wines on our extensive wine list with special emphasis on those from Spain.

The Bespoke Dining Evening

Once during your stay with us our head chef Felix will be pleased to prepare a menu for you personally provided you give him 24 hours notice of what you you would like and we have or can get the ingredients in time.

OUR KITCHEN

When you stay with us we will be pleased to show you round our kitchen which we are very proud of. You will be surprised at its very high quality and its size (150 m2) for a hotel with just 23 rooms but this only confirms how seriously we take the dining experiences at Reads.

Other Experiences......

Horse Riding

Choose from mountain treks in the nearby Tramuntana mountain range or the stunning beaches along the north east coast of Mallorca (only 30minutes from Reads).

Saddle up and enjoy some breathtaking  scenary on horseback.  Available for all levels.

Hot Air Ballooning

This is an early start to your day!  Before dawn is when you need to be ready at the landing field outside Manacor.  Take off in time to enjoy sunrise as you float 1000 feet over Mallorca´s beautiful countryside. Breakfast with Cava is included.

Helicopter Flights

Choose from half hour or 1 hour sightseeing tour of Mallorca, taking off from Reads.  Each flight will be tailored to your wishes allowing you to choose where you fly.  Or why not try a helicopter trial lesson?  Find out what it feels like to fly a helicopter and in Mallorca´s great weather conditions.

Boat Charter

Full day, half day and sunset cruises available.  Explore Mallorca´s stunning coastline full of beautiful bays and coves, onboard your own motor yacht with captain.  Water sports, jet ski's, water skiing and banana rides are available as optional extras.

With just a 30-minute flying time why not include a day trip to the fabulous city of Barcelona during your time with us.  Chauffeur service to and from the airport is available and if you want to stay the night we have made a special deal with one of the city's top hotels.
